Export of agricultural products wins big in markets

Thanks to the breakthrough growth in many key markets, in the first quarter of 2022, the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products exceeded the set target. Notably, agricultural trade surplus increased to a record, 3.1 times higher than the same period last year.

The latest report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that, in the first quarter of this year, the turnover export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached over 12.8 billion USD, up 15.3% compared to the first quarter of 2021. In which, export of main agricultural products earned 5.5 billion USD, up 12.8%; forest products reached 4.3 billion USD, up 4.4%; seafood is estimated at 2.4 billion USD, up 38.7%…

Also in the first quarter, many key commodities of the agricultural industry recorded a sudden growth. Specifically, pangasius exports increased by 82%, coffee by 50.4%, shrimp by 39.7%, rattan, bamboo and sedge mats by 34.4%, pepper by 40.8%.

Items such as rubber, rice, cassava and cassava products all increased by 10-15.5% over the same period last year.

However, the first 3 months of this year also recorded many items with a significant decrease in export turnover such as: tea down 11.9%, vegetables down 12% and cashew nuts down 5%.

Vietnam's strength won big, earning tens of billions of dollars

The US, China, Japan and South Korea are still the four largest customers of Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and fishery exports. The market share is 27.1%, 16.6%, 6.8% and 4.4%, respectively.

In the opposite direction, import turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first quarter of this year stood at US$9.8 billion, down 3.5% over the same period in 2021. In which, imports of the main agricultural products group , forest products and livestock products all decreased sharply.

Particularly, import turnover of aquatic products increased by 13%, fertilizer imports increased by 55.8%, pesticides increased by 17.1%.

Notably, the market for supplying agricultural, forestry and fishery products to Vietnam has changed. In the first 3 months of 2022, Brazil’s export market to Vietnam is the leading market with 846 million USD, accounting for 8.6% market share. Next is Cambodia with about 738.4 million USD, accounting for 7.5%.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic is still complicated, China’s Orders 248 and 249 have caused congestion of agricultural products at border gates, and the war between Russia and Ukraine has caused confusion. stabilize import and export markets and raw materials for production. However, the export turnover of the whole industry in the first quarter reached over 12.8 billion USD, exceeding the set target (10.7 billion USD), the agricultural trade surplus increased by 3.1 times.
