Ho Chi Minh City installed nearly 50 cold fine cameras on National Highway 1

Nearly 50 high-resolution cameras help traffic police to monitor transport activities and sanction traffic violations on Highway 1 through the city.

On April 16, the surveillance camera system invested and installed by the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) was handed over to the HCM City Traffic Police Department for operation. The installation location of the system is under the management of 8 traffic police teams including: Rach Chiec, Binh Trieu, An Suong, Phu Lam, An Lac and Tan Tuc, extending about 45 km of National Highway 1, from Thu Duc City to Binh Chanh district.

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Binh, Deputy Head of the HCM City Traffic Police Department, the camera will record images of vehicles violating traffic with high accuracy, ensuring legal elements. After having data from the camera, the Traffic Command and Traffic Light Control Team (belonging to PC08) will make a file and send it to the vehicle owner for punishment.

“This is similar to the punishment through pictures on the roads in Ho Chi Minh City that the unit has done before,” said Colonel Binh.

National Highway 1, which passes through Ho Chi Minh City, is a gateway, a lifeline, and is crowded with cars, especially cars carrying goods from the Southeast to the West, so traffic jams and accidents often occur.

According to the statistics of the HCM City Traffic Police Department, in 2021, more than 110,000 cases of violations have been extracted from the camera in the city. More than 25,000 cases of fine payment, the rest have not yet complied; fines of nearly 29 billion VND. In the first three months of this year, the camera system recorded 19,500 violations, mainly errors of parking improperly, speeding, not obeying signs and lights…

Last year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport built a surveillance camera system and software to “cold fines” on 30 routes, at 180 points with an investment of 454 billion VND. This system has the main functions: monitoring vehicles running red lights; excessive speed; going in the wrong lane, going in the opposite direction, entering a prohibited road, prohibited time; vehicles parked improperly; the vehicle violates the load.

Earlier this year, the Urban Traffic Management and Administration Center (under the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City) deployed the system. electronic board installed at 8 speed shooting points on many routes, displaying license plate information, violation vehicle speed, to warn drivers.
