After receiving the information, the Ha Tinh City Police Investigation Agency launched an investigation. On April 19, the Criminal Police Team of the Ha Tinh City Police Department coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Police to summon Nguyen Van Hieu and 10 other related subjects to clarify the case.
At the investigation agency, Hieu said that from 2020 until now, he and his accomplices rented a house in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, registered as a business in selling and packaging cosmetics, but in fact did not do this business.
Hieu recruited 10 employees to work, buy cheap household appliances such as rice cookers, hair dryers… to serve fraudulent purposes. After that, Hieu joined groups to buy phone data from many people across the country.
11 subjects were summoned to investigate fraud.
When he got the phone number, Hieu directed his staff to call any number, claiming to be an employee of large corporations, to announce that the customer had won a motorbike, television, and refrigerator.
When the victim believes, Hieu’s team suggests customers need to buy more household items such as rice cookers, hair dryers… to accumulate points, when enough points will be sent home. Thousands of people have deducted from a few million to several hundred million to buy goods to accumulate points but did not receive the promised prize.
By the above tricks, Hieu and his accomplices have cheated thousands of customers across the country, with an estimated amount of nearly 30 billion VND.
Currently, Ha Tinh City Police are holding criminal Nguyen Van Hieu for investigation on the crime of fraud to appropriate property.
