Lexus recalls NX due to lack of welds
AmericaThe Japanese automaker is recalling about 4,200 NX vehicles due to a lack of welds in the front shock absorbers.
The recall covers the NX250, NX350, NX350h and NX450h+ versions, and Lexus has asked dealers to stop selling the stock models. Documents from the US Traffic Safety Administration show that some welding points may have been missed in the manufacturing process. They are located around where the front shock absorbers are mounted.

Missing these welds can cause some of the other welds and surrounding material to weaken or crack over time, which in turn can cause the front shock absorber to detach from its mounting position. This will increase the risk of a collision, which can cause the driver to lose control.
The recall includes 4,215 units NX, although Lexus estimates that less than 1% of them are missing welds. Owners are advised to bring their vehicles to an authorized dealer for inspection in June.
Meanwhile, Lexus has asked dealers to stop selling NXs potentially affected by the recall, which also applies to unsold models. Currently, only 12 have been identified as related to this bug.
In 2019, Subaru recalled 2,107 Outback and Legacy vehicles due to a weld defect under the panel, 293 Ascent vehicles were recalled in 2018 because of a lack of a series of welds on the B-pillar.
The new NX has just been launched in Vietnam market in April, currently there has been no announcement from Lexus Vietnam about this error.
