Apple must pay more than 1,000 USD for selling iPhone without charger in Brazil

According to MacRumors, the sale of Iphone Not including the charger is considered a violation of consumer protection law in Brazil.

Apple’s decision to phase out chargers in 2020 has been controversial. The Cupertino giant claims that this action is meant to protect the environment, which is equivalent to reducing nearly 450,000 cars on the road each year.

However, this move of Apple was met with a series of objections from both users and officials. In a recent lawsuit in Brazil, a judge ordered Apple to pay a customer nearly $ 1,075 for not selling a charger in the iPhone box.

Last year, the Brazilian consumer protection regulator (Procon-SP) also fined this company up to $ 1.9 million for the same reason. In addition, Apple is also forced to provide chargers to any user who requests it.

The charger is an essential part of the phone experience, says Procon-SP. The agency also confirmed that Apple had seriously violated consumer protection laws in Brazil.

On the Apple side, the company maintains that many customers already have chargers at home and that getting rid of this accessory will bring more benefits to the environment.
