COVID-19 reduces life expectancy in Europe

According to the European Statistics Agency (Eurostat), after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the average life expectancy in most EU member states has decreased. Specifically, the average life expectancy of women was recorded as 83.2 years, the average life expectancy of men was 77.5 years.

According to this data, the decline in life expectancy in men is 1 year, while women’s life expectancy is reduced by 0.8 years.

Also according to the latest data for 2020, life expectancy has decreased in 23 of the 27 EU member states, with the exceptions of Denmark, Estonia, Finland and Cyprus.
