Russia said not to ask Ukraine’s president to surrender

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said that the country did not ask Ukrainian President Zelensky to surrender as a condition of establishing peace.

“President Zelensky can bring peace if he stops ordering his neo-Nazi battalions to commit crimes, forces them to release all civilians and stops resisting,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview. Russia’s foreign minister also affirmed that Russia’s goal is not regime change in Ukraine. “It’s an American specialty. They do it around the world,” Lavrov said.

According to Foreign Minister Lavrov, Moscow’s goal is to ensure the safety of the people of eastern Ukraine, protect them from “the threat of militarization or fascism”, as well as ensure that there is no threat of any kind. to Russia’s security from Ukrainian territory.

When launching a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, Russia stated that it had no other choice because Ukrainian forces intensified their offensive in Donbass, “suppressing Russian-speaking people in Ukraine”, forcing the separatist region Donetsk and Lugansk offered to help. Russia is pouring forces into eastern Ukraine with the goal of controlling the entire Donbass region.

Meanwhile, Kiev denied the accusations of “suppression” made by Moscow, accusing Russia of trying to “take land”. After the two breakaway regions expressed their intention to hold a referendum on Russia’s annexation, Kiev said it would not recognize such referendums.

Russia and Ukraine have gone through many rounds of negotiations in both face-to-face and online formats, but have yet to agree on a ceasefire. Moscow requested Ukraine recognition of Crimea as belonging Russia and recognized the independence of two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister on April 23 accused Ukraine of inconsistency in the discussion process, think they are manipulated by the US and UK, causing a delay in negotiations. Ukraine did not comment on this statement, but President Zelensky confirmed that he wanted to hold a summit with Putin to find a peaceful solution.

On April 29, the President of Ukraine expressed pessimism about the progress of negotiations, saying that the public was angry about the “crimes of Russia”. Moscow has repeatedly denied attacking civilians, insisting only on military targets.
