The 96-year-old queen is still sharp, healthy and this is what she eats every day

Longevity – the concept of living a healthy and disease-free life for many years is perhaps one of the most admirable aspects of Queen Elizabeth of England. At the end of February this year, the Queen contracted COVID-19 but with mild symptoms and only a week later, her health recovered, she returned to work, participate in events. The Queen of England recently celebrated her 96th birthday and this is attributed to her incredibly healthy diet that she has maintained throughout the years.

Darren McGardy, Queen Elizabeth’s former chef, reveals some little-known facts about her eating in her book Eating Royally. In fact, the Queen always has 20 chefs serving and they will put up a menu for her to choose from.

At nearly 100 years old, the Queen is still healthy and lucid.

Chef McGrady said, Queen Elizabeth usually eats four meals a day, including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Each meal, she ate rather small portions. She likes fruit, but only eats organic seasonal varieties, such as strawberries in the summer and blueberries in the winter.

“In the summer at Balmoral Castle, you can prepare strawberries for the Queen every day and she will never refuse. But if she tried to put strawberries on the menu in January, she would cross it out and say you should never prepare such a GMO,” said McGrady.

Here’s what the oldest current Queen eats for each meal a day:

Before breakfast:

The Queen begins her day with a cup of hot Earl’s tea with milk and no added sugar. Earl Tea is a combination of the taste of black tea and the flavor of special orange peel essential oil. The Queen often eats a few cookies with her tea.

Main breakfast:

After bathing, the Queen will have a breakfast of cold cereal, toast and marmalade. She rarely eats eggs for breakfast.

Lunch:

The Queen’s Lunch is a high-protein and low-carbohydrate meal that includes black flounder or grilled Scottish salmon, plus spinach and zucchini (aka Japanese squash). She also likes a simple salad with grilled chicken and applies the no-starch rule.

Afternoon tea:

The Queen likes to drink Earl’s tea with some cucumber sandwich or fruit cake. This dish consists of white bread topped with cream cheese, mint, and thin slices of cucumber.

Ever since she was young, afternoon tea has always been the Queen’s favorite meal.

Dinner:

The Queen continues to follow the no-starch rule for dinner. This is the queen’s favorite meal. She usually eats grilled or steamed fish with salad and vegetables.

Favorite Dessert:

Fresh peaches, strawberries or dark chocolate are the Queen’s favorite desserts. Occasionally, she enjoys a chocolate cake made by the royal chef – a type of chocolate chip cookie.

Things the Queen doesn’t like to eat

The queen is a lover of lean proteins like fish and chicken. She also loves roast beef.

“Regarding foods she doesn’t like, the Queen never directly says she doesn’t like anything. She often records “I don’t like this” or “Exchange me for something else in a small notebook on the table”, chef McGardy revealed.

Two things she never touched were garlic and fast food.

In addition, during the Queen’s travels, rare meat or shellfish meat will be banned, to ensure safety and avoid the possibility of the Queen getting food poisoning.
