Using coffee grounds as fertilizer

After brewing, the coffee grounds are usually discarded. But now, they are not thrown in the trash, but instead are collected by Mr. Alban Cakalli and brought back as fertilizer for the farm.

He shared: “This idea arose due to the high prices of fertilizers and other pesticides used in agriculture. Rising fertilizer prices pushed our production costs up as well, which led us to find a solution. to replace”.

Fertilizer prices have doubled in the past few months. Meanwhile, while reading a newspaper, he saw instructions on using coffee grounds as a solution to replace fertilizer. He immediately thought of experimenting.

“It would be good to recycle everything in agriculture. If the land wants to be fertile, we should use household waste such as fruit peels, leftover vegetable rolls to make fertilizer for plants. Because after each harvest, the land is often infertile”said Mr. Alban Cakalli – Albanian farmer.

Every day Mr. Cakalli usually collects about 10kg of coffee grounds from a number of local cafes, then he mixes them with household waste and incubates for 3 months before fertilizing the plants. Thanks to this organic fertilizer, his 1-hectare farm is always green.

Not only applies to the family farm, he is also popular with the farms in the region.

Reusing coffee grounds as fertilizer for plants is considered the key to helping Mr. Cakali to significantly cut production costs and bring in better profits.
