North Korea launches 3 ballistic missiles

The announcement of the Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said that it had detected the cases rocket launch from the Sunan area in the North Korean capital Pyongyang at 6:37 a.m. and 6:42 a.m. local time.

It was North Korea’s 17th missile test this year and came a day after US President Joe Biden wrapped up his first trip to Northeast Asia as US leader.

According to the South Korean military, out of the three missiles that North Korea had launched earlier on the same day, there appeared to be one intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This missile flew about 360 km, at a maximum altitude of 540 km.

At the meeting of the National Security Council, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeok ordered to maintain a state of readiness to ensure that there are no gaps in the security of the Republic of Korea, and to enhance the coordination capacity of the forces. Japanese Defense Minister Kishi Nobuo called the missile launches by North Korea an unforgivable provocation.

On the same day, the US military insisted that North Korea’s missile launches did not constitute a direct threat to the US or its allies. President Biden has also been informed and will continue to be updated on the incident.
