At the seminar, a representative of the Bear Protection Group in Vietnam said: Currently, there are 40 provinces and cities across the country that no longer have bears in captivity. However, the whole country still recorded 294 children captive bear at private institutions. In which, Hanoi is a “hot spot” when accounting for 51% of the total number of bears in captivity in the country.

Ms. Bui Thi Ha, deputy director of the Education Center for Nature (ENV), emphasized that strictly handle violations on protection of rare and precious animals. “If the authorities are still hesitant to sanction, the consequences will be huge and it will not be possible to stop the bear farming in Vietnam, especially in Hanoi,” said Ms. Bui Thi Ha.

Mr. Gilbert Sape – global director of the World Wildlife Fund’s Wildlife Program – shared: “Vietnam can learn from international experiences like Korea. This country requires signing commitments. conduct sterilization of bears for bile and take strict criminal handling measures against violators”.

Also at the seminar, experts offered some solutions such as: nprohibiting the breeding of bears in private establishments; propaganda, advocacy the owner voluntarily surrenders the bear to the State; kencourage the use of herbs and more humane alternatives to bear bile.
