In India, the first quarter data of Counterpoint showed that basic phone sales in the country fell 39% year-on-year. Some of the reasons come from scarce supply, increasing inventories and reduced spending demand due to inflation.

On May 26, many rumors said that Samsung would stop selling feature phones in India from the end of the year to focus on more expensive smartphones. In recent quarters, the Korean company has often ranked 4th or 5th in terms of basic phone market share.
