Dark Souls PC Servers Coming Back Up

According to VCG, earlier in January, the PvP servers for the PC version of Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 has been moved to ‘temporarily down’ status, following reports of a possible serious security issue.

Publisher Bandai Namco later confirmed that these servers will remain offline until after release Elden Ringit is possible that during this time the necessary security measures to fix the problem have been taken.

Now, more than 4 months after the servers were shut down, FromSoftware has confirmed that it is working to bring them back online, but hasn’t said exactly when this will happen.

In a statement to PC Gamer, the game developer confirmed: “We are currently in the process of restoring the online servers for the series of games. Dark Souls on PC. We plan to gradually restore online service for each game, bringing it back to the server for Dark Souls 3 after completing the necessary work to fix the problem. We will provide additional updates as soon as the fix schedule is finalised. Thank you to all players for your patience and understanding as the development team works to fix this issue.”

Dark Souls servers were shut down after a critical remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability was discovered that could allow attackers to take control of other players’ PCs.

In March, one of the vulnerability’s discoverers went public with details of the exploit. The disclosure provides evidence of the attack method that forced From Software to shut down PC servers. According to the description, the vulnerability is confirmed to be in Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3.
