Spectacular party at the palace: Rock stars and kings pay tribute to the Queen – BBC News

A spectacular concert has taken place at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which marks 70 years on the throne. Rock band Queen opened the musical performance with performances by Diana Ross, Sir Rod Stewart and Sir Elton John alongside many other big names. The Queen, who is 96 and has mobility issues, was unable to attend the party in person. However, she made a surprise appearance in a taped comedy sketch, in which she offered Paddington Bear tea and showed him a jam sandwich, which she kept in her purse. Prince Charles and Prince William were among those who paid tribute to the Queen for her long service. Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten and reports by Nicholas Witchell.
