Four expressways including Cau Gie – Ninh Binh, Da Nang – Quang Ngai, Noi Bai – Lao Cai and Ho Chi Minh City – Dau Giay will complete the installation of the ETC system before July 31.

On the afternoon of June 7, Vietnam Expressway Development and Investment Corporation (VEC) – the management unit of 4 highways signed a contract to hire a non-stop toll collection service with Tasco Joint Stock Company – the Service Provider.

The service provider will install 155 ETC lanes at the stations, of which 140 new lanes are invested, 15 lanes have been installed on the Cau Gie – Ninh Binh route. Tasco will operate the ETC system on four expressways in five years. After that, the contractor will hand over the entire system to VEC.

Mr. Nguyen The Manh, Vice Chairman of Tasco’s Board of Directors, said that the contractor committed to complete the investment and operation of the ETC system on four highways in July. To complete in a short time, the unit has prepared the necessary manpower and equipment. The company is also ready to transfer imported equipment by air, prepare its own capital and credit capital for the project.

VEC Chairman Truong Viet Dong said that automatic toll collection on highways is urgent to ensure convenience for people to travel and reduce station congestion on peak occasions. The implementation of ETC has been slow in recent times due to problems in determining investment capital.

According to Mr. Dong, the process of installing the system for nearly 2 months, the vehicle is still operating normally on the highway.

At the meeting in May, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh asked VEC to drastically accelerate the implementation of ETC in expressway projects. After July 31, if any project has not been completed to collect tolls without stopping, they will have to discharge the station.

Tasco is the parent company of VETC Automatic Toll Collection Company Limited – a business providing automatic toll collection without stopping since 2015. VETC has installed and operated ETC/MTC for 80 stations, 345 lanes, equivalent to 70%. number of ETC toll stations nationwide.

VEC was assigned by the Ministry of Transport as an investor to build, manage, operate and exploit 5 expressway projects including: Cau Gie – Ninh Binh, Noi Bai – Lao Cai, Da Nang – Quang Ngai, Ben Luc – Long Thanh and Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay. Currently, the Ben Luc – Long Thanh route has not been completed and only the Cau Gie – Ninh Binh route operates an ETC toll collection system with 15 lanes.
