Russian Foreign Minister cancels visit to Serbia because countries close their airspace

The Kremlin said this was an act to escalate tensions.

Earlier, Serbia’s neighbors Bulgaria, the Republic of North Macedonia and Montenegro had closed their airspace to the plane expected to carry the Russian foreign minister to Belgrade.

In the latest statement on June 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the move of the three countries “unprecedented”, unthinkable.

At the same time, he said he had not received any explanation for the above actions.

Lavrov also stated that instead of going to Belgrade, he will invite his Serbian counterpart to Moscow, stressing that it is important that nothing can damage Russian-Serbian relations.
