Apple prepares to mass produce M2 Pro chips by the end of this year

At the WWDC 2022 event that took place not long ago, Apple launched the baby chip M2. This is the 5th chip developed by the company itself, after the M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max and M1 Ultra series of chips.

The M2 still uses the custom ARM architecture, built on a 5 nm process with more than 20 billion transistors, 25% more than the M1 chip. The increase in the number of transistors helps the M2 chip to have 18% faster processing speed and 35% stronger graphics processing capacity than its predecessor.

According to analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong Intl Tech Research, TSMC – Apple’s chip processing partner – will start mass production of microprocessors. M2 Pro later this year. The M2 Pro chip is expected to be manufactured by this semiconductor company on the 3 nm process.

A source from 9to5mac said that Apple is developing a version of the Mac Mini using the M2 Pro chip, codenamed J474. The chip on the new generation Mac Mini will include 8 high-performance cores and 4 power-saving cores.

Besides, Apple is also said to be working on a new version of Mac Pro and iPad using the M2 Pro chip.
