The world used to have many life-changing inventions, but people still seem to be hesitant to think of breakthrough ideas for development. lasting.

“We are moving towards a world where economic development and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. It requires everyone’s participation. No challenge is impossible. For example, you guys. already know Swedish innovations like Skype, Spotify or the three-point seat belt in a car.

But have you heard about steel that doesn’t use fossil fuels, tall wooden buildings or the conversion of organic matter into a material that can replace plastic?”, said Swedish ambassador Ann Mawe. In the Pioneering Breakthrough program held on June 3 in Ho Chi Minh City, Sweden is one of the world’s leading countries in innovation and development. sustainable development.

Investing in green transitions will be beneficial in the long run, and Vietnam has shown early adaptation, for example, in renewable energy. Vietnam made the right decision when it came to setting a transition target by 2050.

Swedish Ambassador Ann Mawe commented

No idea needed too big

The Breakthrough Pioneer program shares specific stories from fossil fuel-free steel production, 5G networks to close-knit ideas such as recycling clothes and packaging.

“The old, passive economy, developed by cheap land, labor, and natural resources, while the new economy of the future, the digital economy, will be driven by science, technology and creative” – said Mr. Dennis Brunetti, president of Ericsson Vietnam.

Given that data will be the “fuel” for the engine of future economic development, according to Mr. Brunetti, 5G networks will boost efficiency in many areas from manufacturing and energy to transportation and logistics. education… At the conference, H2 Green Steel Company also presented its ambition to replace fossil fuels with green hydrogen in steelmaking by 2024.

Sustainable development also comes from innovation in traditional areas such as energy, smart grid development, sustainable production with new or recycled materials.

For example, the fashion house H&M has programs to recycle clothes, find eco-friendly materials, and the packaging company Tetra Pak uses a mobile application to collect old packaging. Many of these activities are underway in Vietnam.

Many companies say that consumption plays an equally important role as production in sustainable development. This requires actions such as educating children about recycling, charging for non-biodegradable packaging… Most believe that sustainable development requires consistency, starting with small and important things. rather, systematic coordination is required for large-scale implementation.

Drastic action

“In terms of sustainable development, we are very impressed with the recent commitments of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP26). Therefore, we consider Vietnam an important partner,” said Mawe, adding that she saw common ground in the vision of sustainable development between the two countries.

According to Ms. Mawe, from the Pioneering Breakthrough program, Sweden will continue to exchange and strengthen cooperation with Vietnam. “Vietnam has shown a remarkable ability to develop, faster than the previous development of Sweden,” Mawe said.

However, the big goal requires the participation of industries and people in the country as well as external support in terms of finance, models, and technology. “In Sweden, industries are the spearhead of the green transition. We also invest a lot in climate funds, development banks, etc. develop…”, she added.

“I think Vietnam and Sweden have something in common when it comes to implementing high-level political decisions. I believe Vietnam will be able to accomplish what has been determined,” said the Swedish ambassador. This green change is not only from the top down but also from the bottom up, with the support of experts, scholars, students and people in general to change consumption trends… and this has actually started. first takes place”.

According to the Swedish ambassador, in order to achieve commitments at COP26, Vietnam and the industry need to consider various areas to determine a specific roadmap. As with Sweden, the government and industry have established 22 fossil fuel eradication roadmaps for areas such as construction construction, traffic…

“The world is overflowing with creative solutions. It’s time to explore them, implement sharp ideas, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and open new paths together”, organizers of the Pioneer program calling for breakthrough.

“In terms of sustainable development, I believe energy will be the key issue. International companies investing in Vietnam will carefully consider whether Vietnam makes efforts to promote renewable energy or not, because if they do, they will not be able to do so. If they want to produce here they will have to meet CO2 emissions targets.

The key is to increase the share of renewable energy, phase out coal, create jobs for the unemployed during the transition, and upgrade the power system to accommodate new energy sources,” she said. Mawe suggested.

One of the breakthroughs that Sweden has made is the construction of the world’s tallest wooden building, the Sara Cultural Center, to be completed in 2021. The building is located in the city of Skellefteå, where there are already many wooden structures such as the school. Schools, bridges and even multi-storey car parks are all wooden.

“When I saw the proposal, I didn’t think it was possible to build. A 20-story wooden building? In Skellefteå?” – Mayor Lorens Burman told the Guardian newspaper (UK). The technology turned out to be surprisingly simple when they used laminated wood with fibers running in the same direction to help the wood withstand loads even greater than steel or cement.

Wood that is laminated in all directions is also stronger. The project also takes advantage of the advantages of wooden houses, which are fast construction, reduced emissions and no noise and dust.
