‘Dead’ woman knocks on coffin at her own funeral
A woman is believed to have died after a car crash left those present at her funeral shocked to hear the banging of the coffin and then signs of life.
Rosa Isabel Cespedes Callaca interrupted her own funeral when family members heard noises from her coffin during a ceremony in Lambayque, Peru last week.
The Daily Star reported that she was confirmed dead after being involved in the tragic accident that claimed the life of her brother-in-law and seriously injured her three grandsons.
After the tragedy, Rosa was placed in a casket at her funeral on April 26, but mourners were alarmed when they heard a noise at the start of the ceremony.
Relatives, after lifting the coffin to their shoulders, immediately lowered it and opened the lid to find her alive and attentively looking at them.
Funeral home worker Juan Segundo Cajo said: ‘I saw her eyes open and sweating. So I immediately ran to my office and called the police.”
Her family took the coffin to Ferrenafe Hospital in Lambayeque, while leaving Rosa inside.
Doctors took Rosa to the life support room after they noticed she was showing signs of weakness. Unfortunately, Rosa passed away a few hours later. This time for real.
Her family is asking the doctors – who have concluded her death – for answers to find out why she was declared dead “in the first place”.
Rosa’s aunt told local media: ‘We wanted to know why my niece had a resurrected reaction yesterday, when we were taking her for burial. We have videos in which she pushes and touches the coffin.”
Relatives of Rosa believe she may have been in a coma after the accident. This could be the reason why doctors assumed she was dead. Peruvian police are currently investigating the incident, which happened at Lambayeque Regional Hospital, where she was first treated.
