One of the haunting cases that appeared in “Juvenile Court” was the murder of an 8-year-old girl, Kim Sarang (name has been changed), the perpetrator was a 17-year-old girl surnamed Kim. In addition to Kim who committed the crime, there is also his accomplice, Park, 18 years old.
The crime of kidnapping and murdering an 8 year old barbarian girl
The incident took place in a park under an apartment building in Dongchun area, Yeonsu district, Incheon city. On March 29, 2017, Sarang was playing in the park when Kim approached, asking the child to take her upstairs to charge her phone. The results of the police investigation later revealed that at that time, Kim’s cell phone still had a battery and he only used it as an excuse for Sarang to take him home.

Sarang’s house is on the 15th floor, but for fear of being caught on security cameras, Kim just took the elevator to the 13th floor and then walked on the remaining 2 floors. Around 3pm that day, little Sarang was playing with her pet cat in her room when Kim attacked, strangled her with a tablet’s charging cable to death. Because it was late afternoon, Sarang’s parents were at work, and the child was alone at home.

During the crime, Kim was still texting and exchanging messages with Park, such as: “Caught”, “A baby girl is still alive”, “Strangled child with charging cable”. Knowing Kim’s actions, Park not only did not interfere, but also gave advice to encourage your crimes, such as: “Are you sure it’s not in the camera lens?“It doesn’t stop there, Park also asked Kim:”Are the fingers beautiful?“According to Kim’s testimony, Park also reassured you to calm down and sort things out.
Not only did the hand kill Sarang’s baby, the perpetrators also tore apart the child’s body in the bathroom. After cleaning up the crime scene, Kim put Sarang’s body into a garbage bag, and put her organs into the food waste bin. Next, Kim carefully changed clothes to leave the victim’s house.

Kim walked two floors to the roof of the apartment complex and dumped Sarang’s body there. Baby Sarang’s finger was put in the envelope pocket by Kim. He left the victim’s house at 4:09 p.m. and took the subway to Seoul at 4:30 p.m. the same day.
More than an hour later, or around 5:44 p.m., Kim went to Park and handed the envelope containing Sarang’s finger to the person. It was reported that the two then calmly carried the envelope to eat and drink until they said goodbye at 8pm that day. Park took the envelope home. He said he threw it in the trash but the police couldn’t find him.

When they find Sarang’s school bag left on the playground, they still think that maybe the funny kid has come to his friend’s house and sleeps again. Apartment dwellers also take turns looking for households. The next morning, the truth becomes clear when Sarang’s body bag is found on the roof.
More painfully, there is information that the Sarang family had to cut the shroud into several pieces because the child’s body was incomplete. Some body parts were never found.
The teen killer and his accomplices
On April 6, 2017, police arrested Kim, a high school dropout, on charges of kidnapping, murder and body destruction.
It is known that Kim has a history of treatment for schizophrenia and depression. However, given that the teenage killer killed and knowingly cleaned the scene, even disguised himself to leave the scene with a different appearance, authorities said this was not an impulsive murder caused by schizophrenia.
On April 11, 2017, an arrest warrant for Park was issued. During his second trial on June 15, 2017, Kim admitted to the murder charge but insisted that he did not plan the crime. Defense attorneys also used the argument that Kim had Asperger’s syndrome – a form of autism and argued that the perpetrator was hallucinating, mistakenly thinking that little Sarang was abusing his pet cat, so he killed the victim.

However, on June 23, 2017, Kim appeared in court as a witness in Park’s trial. He reversed the entire original testimony, saying that the entire crime was directed by Park. Kim said he was forced to kill a child dozens of times by Park. But Park denied all of Kim’s testimony, only admitting to the charge of disposing of his body.
Park testified that he knew nothing about Kim’s assassination plot and insisted he never asked to receive any parts of the victim’s body. When he received the envelope from Kim, Park thought the other finger was a model, so he threw it away.
Prosecutors released text messages between Kim and Park, proving that Park lied. He was fully aware of what his friend had done to the 8 year old and most likely because Park asked if Sarang’s finger was pretty, Kim brought it to Park as a “gift”.
Present at the trial, Sarang’s parents were very angry and demanded severe punishment for Kim so that similar violations do not happen again. Kim heard that and burst into tears.

In court, Kim revealed that he and Park had a romantic relationship about 10 days before the murder. Park was the one who came up with the idea to kill and encouraged him to commit crimes. Park denied Kim’s testimony, only admitting to having feelings for Park, but it was a joke.
At the trial on August 29, 2017, prosecutors asked for a 20-year prison sentence for Kim and a life sentence for Park. 20 years in prison is the maximum sentence for child offenders regardless of the crime they committed. In Park’s case, because he was over 18 at the time of the crime, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
In the end, the judge decided to sentence Kim to 20 years in prison, Park to 13 years in prison on the condition that he wears an electronic bracelet for the next 30 years.
