According to Sputnik news agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry on March 15 announced the imposition of sanctions to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and more than 300 MPs of this North American country. Moscow’s list of sanctions against Canada’s leadership also includes Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and Defense Minister Anita Anand.
Russia’s move is in response to similar decisions by the US and Canada.
The list of 13 US officials sanctioned includes US President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
However, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia still maintains official relations with Washington and still ensures to conduct high-level contacts with the US leaders on the list if necessary.
In a move to defend its latest move, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated, “all attacks against Russia, whether it be attacks on Russian diplomatic missions, the closure of airspace, or Ottawa’s decision sever bilateral relations with Russia will be met with a clear and proportionate response.”
