Animals living in temperate conditions have a longer life span

This could be the key to prolonging human life.

Previously, scientists speculated that animals with high metabolic rates tend to have shorter lifespans than animals with slow metabolisms. In this study, the scientists conducted an experiment to find out how body temperature affects the lifespan of rodents. They exposed the hamsters to high temperatures, around 32.5 degrees Celsius, and found that their metabolism dropped as body temperature increased.

They also found that the lifespan of hamsters that lived in high temperatures was reduced compared with those that lived between 21 degrees Celsius.

According to the researchers, compared to metabolic rate, body temperature is more important for longevity.
