Shocking death

With a population of less than 4,000 people, West Liberty City, Iowa (USA) is a place where everyone knows each other and people rarely lock their doors at night. That’s why when Corey Wieneke was beaten to death in his home in 1992, it caused a stir in public opinion here.

Corey (22 years old) is known around her for her gentle, outgoing personality. Corey is also known as an outstanding football player, having won the state championship with his team.

In his spare time, Corey runs errands at a bar owned by his grandparents. At the age of 18, he started working as a bartender. The funny rugby star quickly became the bar’s best bartender.

Around the same time, Corey began dating Jody Hotz. Everyone thinks this is a perfect couple.

In 1992, Corey and Jody moved to a ranch outside of town owned by her father. Jody works at a bank. That fall, they announced their engagement. The wedding will be held shortly after that.

However, the beautiful future they had planned came to an abrupt end on October 13, 1992, when Jody made a frantic call to the police.

Due to the nature of the job, Corey always worked the night shift at the bar. Normally when Jody comes home from work, that’s when he leaves. But on October 13, 1992, Jody came home at 6:30 pm to find her boyfriend lying on the bedroom floor.

“I think my fiancé is dead,” Jody’s voice was full of panic. “His whole body was bloody, breathless and cold.”

Police were on the scene immediately. According to the results of the autopsy, Corey was beaten several times with a hard object.

Jody said the last time she saw Corey he was sleeping in his bed when she left for work at 8am. When she got home, she was surprised to find their dog outside, without a leash or muzzle and the door open. In addition, Corey’s car was still parked in front of the house when he should have been at the bar to work.

The next morning, a resident informed police about a metal baseball bat with blood on it that he discovered on the street near Corey’s house.

An autopsy later confirmed this was the murder weapon. It had Corey’s blood on it, but no DNA or fingerprints of the killer.

A farmer living in the neighborhood told police he was driving on the road near Corey’s house the day he was killed. This person saw the stick at the scene at 13:30, but at 9 a.m., when he passed, it certainly hadn’t appeared. Therefore, the police speculate that Corey was murdered between 9am and 13.30am on October 13.

Detectives searched around the crime scene. The possibility of breaking into a house where a thief is caught or entering a house to kill and rob are excluded, because the property in the house is still intact. Police believe this is a planned murder, the motive of the crime is hatred.

Conducting research on the victim, the police later discovered another secret of Corey.
