Appropriating state secret documents, former President of Saigon Co.op was sentenced

Taking advantage of her relationship with her boyfriend, Le Thi Phuong Hong copied secret documents and provided relevant information to the former President of Saigon Co.op while in the process of investigation, to profit.

At more than 20:00 on April 28, after a day of trial and deliberation, the first-instance trial of the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City declared Mr. Diep Dung (SN 1968, former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Cooperative Union – Saigon – Co.op) 2 years in prison for the crime of “Appropriating State secret documents”; Nguyen Hoai Bac (SN 1984, living in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, former police officer) 5 years in prison and Le Thi Phuong Hong (SN 1979, living in Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City) 6 years in prison for the same crime “Deliberately disclosing state secrets”.

Former President of Saigon Co.op was faked to court

According to the indictment, at the end of September 2020, the authorities worked with Mr. Dung on the content of violations at Saigon Co.op. Mr. Dung said that someone had provided him with information related to the process of verifying the source of crime information.

From Mr. Dung’s testimony, the authorities, working with officials involved in verifying the case, discovered that Mr. Bac (a member of the verification team) had leaked information. The person who disclosed the investigation documents to Mr. Dung was Le Thi Phuong Hong.

Mr. Bac lives as husband and wife with Mrs. Hong. Knowing that Mr. Bac was participating in the team to verify signs of wrongdoing at Saigon Co.op, for personal purposes, he took advantage of Bac’s sleep, Hong recorded Mr. Dung’s phone number and copied the documents to contact and provide information related to Mr. Dung during the investigation and verification of violations at Saigon Co.op. Ms. Hong contacted Mr. Dung to get acquainted and sent some important information related to Mr. Dung.

After contacting by phone, Mr. Dung met Mrs. Hong. At the meeting, two people exchanged contents related to Mr. Dung’s mistakes, which led to Saigon Co.op’s tax arrears. Mr. Dung then asked his driver to meet Ms. Hong and give him an envelope. When she got home, Mrs. Hong opened it and found a letter and 100 million VND. The indictment determined that Ms. Hong had provided Mr. Dung with some information containing classified documents as a result of the verification of the Saigon Co.op case.

Regarding the violation that occurred at Saigon Co.op, in December 2020, Mr. Diep Dung was prosecuted and detained by the Ho Chi Minh City Public Security Agency, for “abuse of power in the performance of official duties” regarding the incident. suddenly increased charter capital from 3,200 billion dong to 6,797 billion dong at Saigon Co.op.
