The Nusa Dua Declaration outlines the actions that Member Parliaments need to take to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change, including accelerating the transition to clean energy, ensuring the integration of vulnerable groups, and strengthen global cooperation towards common climate solutions.

Regarding this issue, IPU President Duarte Pacheco emphasized: “The time has come to act and time is running out. IPU-144 needs to mobilize all National Assembly deputies. We need to set an example and act decisively before it’s too late. Don’t let the people and the young generation put their trust in us!”

For his part, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives said that international commitments are meaningless if they are not implemented at the national level. Parliaments need to develop appropriate national legal instruments, budgets and monitor the implementation of various international commitments, while mobilizing emissions reductions, strengthening adaptation efforts and implementing them. financing commitments to developing countries.

In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, IPU-144 adopted a landmark resolution entitled “Rethinking and re-adjusting the approach to peace processes to promote lasting peace”, in which reaffirms the IPU’s core principle of dialogue in the settlement of international disputes.

The resolution calls on Parliaments to ensure that peace processes are increasingly inclusive, taking into account all parties, including the voices of women and young people. The resolution addresses the need to establish mechanisms that allow all people affected by conflict to speak up.

The IPU General Assembly also passed a Resolution on Leveraging information and communication technology to support the education sector, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. The resolution aims to build on distance learning experiences and expand access to education.

In addition, within the framework of IPU-144, the delegates also heard the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBT) Robert Floyd present a report, which called on countries to comply treaty to reduce the risk of nuclear weapons testing.

IPU-144 is hosted by the National Assembly of Indonesia and brings together delegates from more than 110 Member Parliaments, including 30 National Assembly Chairmen. This is one of the first large-scale live events held in the region since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
