Gasoline and electric car riders mock each other
AmericaSome electric car owners laugh at the long queues of cars waiting for gas, while they themselves sometimes find it inconvenient because the charging station is not enough.
As fuel prices rise, more and more drivers are turning to electric vehicles as a way to relieve the stress at gas stations. However, buying an electric car is not a cure-all for all of today’s woes, and as long as the infrastructure can meet the demand, electric vehicles can still bring problems.
According to AAA Gas Prices, the average price of a gallon (3,785 liters) of regular gasoline in the US right now is $4,252, with the price in California up to $5,855. With gas prices continuing to rise, drivers are looking for ways to save money on fuel.
Most automakers are committed to launching more electric models, with brands from Volkswagen to Maserati saying plans to sell only electric vehicles by the end of the decade. However, how many electric vehicles do not matter, as long as there are enough charging stations.
On social media, electric vehicle drivers were quick to point out and laugh at owners of cars with internal combustion engines who had to wait in line to buy gas. But now, the mockery is directed at themselves as electric vehicle drivers are also forced to wait to be able to recharge, sometimes for hours.
The points of annoyance for electric vehicle riders are the charging time and the number of charging stations. Even with fast charging points, it takes someone at least 30 minutes for the battery to charge to 80% capacity. The high demand that weighs on the grid means that the right capacity is not always available, resulting in longer charging times.
The US government plans to install 500,000 new charging stations in the next 5 years, but most will only be at Level 2, which can only add about 40 km with each charging hour.
The impact of disproportionate infrastructure is already starting to show, and time is ticking for companies looking to catch up and meet market demand for electric vehicles. The inevitable shift of conflict when many external factors continue to have strong impacts. At least for now, it is impossible to say who has the upper hand: those who ride electric cars or use cars with internal combustion engines.
