Review of Hung Yen’s bank interview and unexpected ending

This guy revealed that when answering the interview, he should steer the interview panel’s questions in his direction, by adding his understanding to the answer…

Tran Hoang Minh – a 26-year-old man from Hung Yen, a real estate broker in Hanoi – has just passed a series of bright candidates to be recruited to work at Vietcombank. Immediately after the bank announced his acceptance, this guy could not hide his joy and reviewed his interview on a forum about banking.

In his sharing, Tran Hoang Minh narrated the entire interview, thereby showing that this guy is quite intelligent. He convinced the selection committee of Vietcombank with psychological tricks. His sharing is also a valuable lesson for young people applying for jobs, not just candidates who want to be recruited to work at banks.

According to Minh’s introduction, he was born in 1996, graduated from the Academy of Finance, worked as a real estate broker and import-export. The interview only took place on the morning of March 24, 2022 at a large branch of Vietcombank in Hanoi. The branch auditioned for a position of customer relations specialist, but there were 17-18 participants.

At the interview round, there were 7 candidates participating, all dressed very professionally and confidently, making Hoang Minh feel a bit “overwhelmed” and somewhat self-deprecating.

“I was the 4th person called in for an interview, I got 63 points. Because only 7 people participated in the interview, the panel spent a lot of time on each candidate, from 15-30 minutes. My interview time is 30 minutes.” Tran Hoang Minh shared.

According to him, if you are determined to take the bank exam, take advantage of the opportunity as soon as possible, even if the employer only recruits 1 position. The reason is that if you wait for the branch to recruit a lot of new recruits, it means that the recruitment council will interview a lot of candidates, the opportunity for candidates to give their best will decrease.

“The interview panel consisted of 7-8 people, when I entered the room, I bowed my head and was invited to sit. Because I went to many interviews, I have experience, and I don’t have any tremors. Here are the questions I was asked.

Introduce myself, this one is very concise: Name, hometown, university, work history, impressed with the development of the city and want to live and work in this city ( because I’m a foreigner).

Questions like:If you have done real estate, which Vinhomes project have you implemented?; How do you understand credit?”.

I replied that for real estate, I sold it and it was good to keep in touch with customers. But for credit products, it is a whole process, from customer search, appraisal, disbursement. And especially to monitor debt collection after the sale, which is an important difference from real estate.

Next comes the question: “With a loan balance of 50 billion dong, how can I achieve it?” I have 3 ways to answer:

Method 1: shake hands with a real estate broker because this is a channel that brings a stable source of customers.

Option 2, go to the market and knock on doors from door to door to open a payment account, thereby cross-selling other products such as credit, deposit, and insurance. Because I see a lot of people want to open a payment account but don’t have time to go to the bank, especially when Vietcombank has free online transactions (this I purposely added to show I have understanding). This method does not bring high efficiency, so I only do it on a day off.

Option 3, when it rains, I can’t go to the market, I will telesale (Call to find customers – PV).

Continue with the question: “Real estate brokers often ask for a commission, but the branch does not have a mechanism, what will you do to attract the broker?” I replied that I would not “cut blood” because it would create a bad precedent, and focus on low Vietcombank interest rates.

Council asked “Do you play any sports?” I replied that I play tennis and football. Did the Director ask more questions? “Do you have a bet?“I said no, but I play the stock market. This is because I intentionally turned to securities because that is my strong point. Then just as I thought he asked a lot of questions related to stocks.

Then came a series of questions like: Do you have girlfriend? What goal do I have? How is my English? How tall am I? What do my parents do? Do you often visit your parents?

During the interview, even though I wasn’t asked, I intentionally added a little bit of my knowledge about the city, like the biggest real estate project in the city that the branch is lending. Then take the example of your friend to prove that the existing relationships and the person with the Hanoi household registration is only a short-term advantage. The immediate advantage and the most important factor is the bloodiness in business, burning wholeheartedly at work.”

Finally, this guy revealed when answering the interview “please steer the question of the interview panel in your direction by adding understanding to your answer”.

And the happy ending for this country boy was the morning of the interview, the afternoon of the same day he received an email announcing his acceptance.

The review of the above interview received a rain of compliments. An HR person at a joint stock commercial bank commented: “I work as HR at a joint stock commercial bank, reading your review I can see 3 specific adjectives: proactive, responsive, positive. I wish you to always maintain that spirit and achieve much success in the new organization.”

Ms. Hong Hoa, a member of the group commented: “With your answer, I don’t even need to read the ending to know that I will pass anyway.”

“Congratulations. Reading the answer shows you are very confident and brave. That’s why you pass, even if you cross the industry.” member Hoang Yen Nhi wrote.

Not as lucky as Mr. Tran Hoang Minh, a young girl also applied to Vietcombank but was not selected. This girl shared:

“Everyone, I am an ungraduated student, currently waiting for a degree. This time, I was lucky enough to get into the interview round of Vietcombank. Talking about myself, I also have a background of club activities, relative achievements, but in 4 years of university I have never worked anywhere, nor have I ever been interviewed for a job.

Perhaps both of these things made the VCB’s Council not pay attention to her, so the interview went by very quickly. The questions were not significant, so I was quite disappointed, I had prepared quite well for this interview round, so I felt very sad.

I also encourage myself that I’m young, I still have many opportunities, but I also want to write a few lines here to share my feelings with you when I have my first experience and stumble. I don’t know if any of you have ever been like me?”
