Cheap fruit like cho

Exports to China fell sharply, causing a range of fruit products to be sold at market prices as cheap as gifts.

In Hanoi these days, it is not difficult for passersby to find shops selling lifesaving and consumption-supporting fruit. Dragon fruit, watermelon, … are piled on the side of the road and sell for 4,000-6,000 VND/kg. Even on the sidewalks of some streets, container trucks sell dragon fruit for 90,000 VND/box of 20kg (about 4,000 VND/kg), watermelon for 5,000-8,000 VND/kg, acacia mango for 99,000 VND/box of 13kg (about 7,600 VND). /kg).

In the online market, not only dragon fruit and watermelon, but also an ever-expanding list of cheap fruits. For example, Muong Khuong’s honey pineapple is reduced to 4,900 VND/small fruit, a large one costs 7,900 VND/fruit; The price of a mango with thin seeds ranges from 10,000-15,000 VND.

Even four-quarter mangoes, sand mangoes which are relatively expensive, ranging from 45,000-80,000 VND/kg depending on the time of day, now many places sell goods at a price of 20,000-25,000 VND/kg.

It is worth mentioning that pink pepper export bananas offered for sale in the market are only 5,000-6,000 VND/kg. There are even places that sell for just 3,000 VND/kg, cheaper than a cup of iced tea on the sidewalk in Hanoi. According to the sender, this is an unprecedentedly low price.

Nguyen Thi Oanh – the focal point of sales of pink pepper bananas in Hanoi – said that if export goods to China were not blocked, these export pink pepper bananas could be sold for up to 35,000-45,000 VND/kg in the market .and only sold in supermarkets.

However, currently, banana cars exported to China must be re-sold in the domestic market. Do not sell quickly ripe bananas will rot. Therefore, shopkeepers like him had to take out their goods and sell them at low prices.

Pink pepper bananas for export are sold on the online market for only a few thousand VND/kg.

“I brought out a pack of grade 1 pink pepper bananas. This type is selected for each batch for export and now retails in boxes,” he said.

On the first day, Oanh’s selling price was 80,000 VND/box of 10kg (about 4-5 bags), 135,000 VND/2 cartons. Until recently, when the bananas were ripe, he had to sell them at 35,000 VND/barrel, which is only 3,500 VND/kg to save capital.

The more farmers plant, the heavier the hole

In the watermelon capitals of Gia Lai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh,… the price of this fruit has dropped to the bottom, just over 2,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Phan Van Lam leased land to grow melons in Ea Cha Rang (Son Hoa, Phu Yen), saying that traders only buy type 1 melons weighing 4 kg/fruit or more for 2,200 VND; Type 2 of 3 kg/piece, the price is 2,000 VND. So for almost 3 months of planting and caring for it, at the end of the harvest he and his wife had to sell it, an estimated loss of nearly 20 million dong.

“Seeing the pile of melons drying in the hot sun, I moved to a cool place and piled them up, the round melon slid to the ground, my wife cried,” Lam said sadly.

In Vinh Thanh (Binh Dinh), in the ripe watermelon season, Mr. Ngo Van Thuan also reaped all the sorrow for the lack of melon, the price fell sharply.

The farmer sheds tears on the watermelon harvest day.

According to Pak Thuan’s calculations, one watermelon pole (500m2), land rent, seed money, fertilizer, maintenance until harvest day costs around 7-7.5 million VND. But in this case, he only earned around 3.8 million VND/sao when he cut and sold the fruit.

“I planted 30 sao, after harvesting, if I sold everything, I would lose hundreds of millions. If there is a household with a larger area, the loss will be heavier,” he said sadly.

In the dragon fruit capital of Binh Thuan, after the price of dragon fruit dropped to as cheap as a gift and lasted for several months, farmers were almost exhausted. Some households grit their teeth and cut down these types of plants because the more holes they plant, the heavier they become.

Gardeners in Binh Thuan say that dragon fruit was originally a tree to get rich, there are times when China “eats” for 50,000-60,000 VND/kg, they make a profit of 170-180 million VND/ha after deducting the full cost. Currently the price of dragon fruit reaches 10,000 VND/kg, but the price is cheap because it cannot be sold.

Sharing stories about the congestion of agricultural products and the chorus of falling prices, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said that 3-4 years ago, there was also congestion at the border gates but not as bad as now. .

Each time the question: why rely on a large and diverse market, not develop the market of 100 million people, not improve the processing of goods, but export raw materials, not standardize quality, and mainly export quotas, investment and logistics development?… is set again.

“But we suffer from ‘forgetfulness’, because when the goods are released, the questions drift away without constantly looking for a solution to overcome the error,” the minister said. Not to mention we also suffer from the disease of complacency, content with what we have, so we are afraid to change. The economic method is still “blind” in terms of supply and demand, does not orbit, sometimes it is more like a trading trip than methodical cooperation, so there are many risks.
