1. Hair care with conditioner

In India, oil hair care has been added to the beauty routine for ages. The use of readily available oils like coconut and sesame was also popular in the 90s. At that time, serums or hair creams were not as popular as they are today. The oil helps to nourish the hair from the follicle to the tip.

‘It helps tackle dryness caused by pollution and changing weather. Coconut oil is also known to have antibacterial and antifungal properties, which support scalp health. So if you want to maintain the shine of your hair, oiling it at least once or twice a week is the way to go,’ says Hussain.

2. Comb your hair before going to bed

Sharing about his research, Shahnaz Husain said: ‘If you look closely at Bollywood movies of the 90s, you will surely come across the scene where the heroine combs her hair gently before going to bed. Combing your hair before bed is a good way to remove knots that may have formed. If this is not done, these knots can split ends and lead to hair loss’.

Brushing is also great for distributing the hair’s natural oils across the scalp from the roots to the ends. It can also help get rid of any dust particles that may have stuck to your hair during the day.

3. Protect your hair with a bun or braid

Buns and braids were popular in the ’90s for good reasons. Braid or braid your hair to keep it in place. This is especially beneficial before you go to bed or before you do any strenuous activity.

Keeping your hair in a high bun is also a great way to do this during the harsh summers as it provides protection from the sun and also helps keep your neck area from drying out. There is less friction between the pillow’s silk fibers and your hair when properly tied. This helps to avoid damage to the hair.

4. Use herbal shampoo powders

In the ’90s, normal shampoo wasn’t as sought after as herbal shampoo. In India, herbal ingredients such as amla, hibiscus, and shikakai are ground into concocted powders for use as traditional shampoos. This trend is gradually returning as more and more people realize the importance of natural products in hair care.

‘Such herbal shampoo powders are sulphate free, silicone free and contain only natural ingredients that will give you thick hair, preventing hair damage’. Husain said.

5. Scalp massage for better hair growth

Regular scalp massage is another tip for hair growth. Not only that, massage also contributes to promoting hair growth and soothing nerves.

If you feel stressed all the time due to work pressure or other factors, then you are very likely to lose hair. Massaging the scalp will completely alleviate this problem and you will also feel more relaxed and happy. Make sure to massage the scalp at least 4-5 times in a week for optimal results.
