Opening high-speed train route from Da Nang to Ly Son island

In about 150 minutes, the Trung Trac speedboat will take tourists from Da Nang port to Ly Son island (Quang Ngai), when the waterway transport route is opened.

On March 29, at Song Han port, Da Nang city, Phu Quoc speedboat joint stock company (Phu Quoc Express) opened a 135 km long waterway transport route from Da Nang to Ly Son island. Trung Trac ship is 44.7 m long, 12.2 m wide, with a maximum speed of 33 knots, registered on April 12, 2019. The ship can carry a maximum of 612 people, including 598 passengers, with VIP and normal cabins.

Ticket price is 590,000 VND, VIP 900,000 VND; Weekends and New Year’s holidays 720,000-900.000 VND. The ticket price for disabled people is 410,000 VND for weekdays and 500,000 VND for weekends and holidays; Similarly, the elderly and children are entitled to a discount of 470,000 VND and 570,000 VND respectively.

Mr. Tran Song Hai, a member of the Board of Directors of Phu Quoc Express, said that the idea of ​​​​the high-speed train route was planned by the company for many years to connect the sea and islands and develop tourism in the Central region. After the opening, the train will test run before operating on April 9. At first, the company operated two trips and returned in the same day. From April 9 to 30, ticket prices will be reduced by 20% to attract visitors to experience.

Congratulating the business on opening a high-speed train route directly to Ly Son Island, Mr. Tran Phuoc Son, Vice President of Da Nang City, said that this is a new tourism product, helping to diversify activities to attract domestic and foreign tourists. The country returned to the Central region after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. “I believe the waterway will be an attractive tourist product associated with high-quality tourism services,” he said.

Mr. Dang Van Minh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Ngai province, shared that the opening of a waterway tourist route connecting Ly Son with Da Nang city “is the expectation of the leaders of the province”. Localities have started tourism, so the opening of the route will create a new impetus for socio-economic development. He suggested exploiting businesses to ensure the safety of tourists, not to let incidents happen.

Previously, visitors to Ly Son only had one waterway from Sa Ky port (Quang Ngai) with a time of 30 minutes. Da Nang people and tourists have to travel by road and railway about 200 km to reach Sa Ky port.

In early 2021, leaders of Da Nang City proposed the Ministry of Transport to open two inland waterways to Cu Lao Cham (Quang Nam) and Ly Son (Quang Ngai). By the end of the year, the ministry added the Da Nang – Ly Son route to one of the five waterway transport routes from the shore to the island.

The Da Nang city government has requested the Project Management Board to invest in infrastructure construction or call for investment in ports and wharves to become specialized tourist ports with international standards to effectively exploit the tourist route. main waterway and routes from the shore to the island, in the immediate future is the route to Ly Son. The Da Nang Maritime Administration has allowed the Trung Trac ship to depart from Da Nang port.

Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee also agreed to let the Trung Trac ship dock at Ly Son island wharf before Ben Dinh port comes into operation. The exploitation unit is required to coordinate with Ly Son district, the port authority and the border guard to survey the actual port area to ensure security and safety when anchoring ships; complete the registration procedures for fixed passenger transport on the route.
