The reason for the outbreak of a super cold like Covid-19

Long time without exposure to viruses in the community weakens the immune system of many people.

After nearly 2 years with many periods of social distancing, Australians are back to their normal schedule of activities. Besides Covid-19, thousands of people are facing a problem health other.

They had Covid-19-like symptoms when the super cold hit Australia. This virus has spread like wildfire and attacked the patients with the same degree as Covid-19.

Symptoms include itchy throat, body and head aches, runny nose, and fatigue. The illness sometimes lasts for weeks.

Therefore, many people suspected that they were infected with Covid-19, however, the test then repeatedly returned negative results.

People with a super cold often don’t lose their taste or smell like Covid-19 did. Currently, however, the widespread Omicron variant also rarely causes this manifestation.

The appearance of the super cold virus makes many people worried. However, experts say, this is not a new super virus. It is the result of a chain of viruses that attack the human immune system. This system has been weakened after 2 years of separation, leaving the human body unprepared to face pathogens.

“Our immune system goes through a shock. We are more likely to get sicker than usual if we are not exposed to the virus regularly,” said Royal Australian University President, Dr Charlotte Hespe.

“But they’re not the kind of virus that poses the risk of massive hospitalizations.”

At the end of 2021, the UK recorded cases of super cold virus infection. Scientists think it is the result of nearly two years of blockade and social distancing. The same is happening in Australia when regulations on wearing masks, social distancing, and hand hygiene are relaxed.

Health experts said that for a long time without being exposed to viruses that often exist in the community, people’s respiratory tracts are not as healthy as before.

As a result, upper respiratory tract infections are on the rise and the number of colds and flu cases is expected to follow the same trend.

The flu also has symptoms similar to Covid-19, including headache, aches, and fever, and can take 10 to 14 days to clear up.

When opening the door, people entering from abroad can bring a virus that is completely foreign to Australians.

Dr Ian Mackay, a virologist from the University of Queensland, said the traditional view had been that respiratory illnesses caused by colder weather had changed after the arrival of Covid-19.

Most of the spikes in cold and flu cases in Australia have occurred in warmer months, suggesting the numbers have more to do with immunity levels than with season.

“Clearly, the spread of the virus is not seasonal. It has more to do with the population’s immunity against the virus. When that ability is low, these viruses can do what they like whenever they want,” Dr. Mackay said.

GP Philippa Kaye explains: “During the time of isolation, the number of infections with infectious diseases (non-Covid-19) decreased. We think the main reason is due to restrictions on exposure.”

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners still encourages people to continue to wear masks and practice social distancing.
