The unnamed farmer, who lives in the village of Çitli in the Mecitözü district, found the ancient bracelet while working on the farm and took the artifact to the Çorum Museum. Experts discovered this artifact originating from the Hittite civilization and carried out restoration work. They then added the bracelet to the museum’s collection. The exquisite artifact, crafted from copper, vulture, silver and gold, is decorated with various Hittite symbols, including images of the god Itar/Auka and his two entourage Ninatta and Kulitta.

Resul Ibiş, an archaeologist at the museum, said the bracelet will be on display for visitors. “After initial assessment, we found this to be a one-of-a-kind artifact,” commented Ibiş. It dates back to the 13th century BC. The bracelet was deformed and lost some parts, but experts restored it. According to the archaeological team, very little jewelry from the Hittite period still exists today and the bracelet will reveal the style of clothing of this civilization.

Çorum is the site of the ancient city of Hattusa that the Hittites built. The city was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986 due to its intact architecture and archaeological sites. Hattusa served as the capital of the late Bronze Age Hittite empire.
