Discovered a foreign object 5cm long in a man’s nose in Ha Tinh
Due to often using spring water for daily living, a man in Ha Tinh had leeches in his nasal cavity, living parasitically for more than 20 days.
The Department of Otolaryngology, Ha Tinh General Hospital, said that the unit’s doctors had just performed a successful surgery, removing a 5cm long leech from the male patient’s nose.
Before that, around 8:00 am on April 2, NVA (33 years old, residing in Ky Van commune, Ky Anh district) went to Ha Tinh General Hospital in a state of pain in his nostrils, bleeding for 20 days, and was constantly dizzy.

Through examination, the doctor discovered that in the right nose of Mr. A. there was a foreign body similar to the species of squeezing, forest leech.
During the endoscopic process, the surgical team took out a 5 cm long leech that was straining blood.
Mr. A. often has the habit of using spring water in the forest for daily living. Leeches often enter the human body when bathing or drinking directly from spring water.
Currently, patient A. has no more nose pain and bleeding, and is in stable health.
Doctor Bui Dinh Nam (Department of Ear – Nose – Throat, Ha Tinh General Hospital) recommends that people should not swim, bathe or drink water in streams or unsafe water environments.
