It is known that after committing the crime in 1994, in 1995 the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City sentenced Tan’s accomplice, Nguyen Dinh Thanh Lam, to 3 years in prison, and Nguyen Long 2 years in prison – the same crime of “disturbing public order”. add”.

Particularly, Nguyen Minh Tan, after committing the crime, fled, on November 28, 1994, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department issued a decision to arrest Tan for “murder”, “disturbing public order”.

During the escape, Tan changed his last name and name to Vo Minh Hung and worked as a deputy of the street protection department of Binh Hung Hoa A ward, Binh Tan district. In 2014, Tan participated in catching robbers and was honored on the program “Shining in the middle of everyday life”.

In August 2014, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Linh, the victim’s sister, was watching a program on TV when she discovered that a person named Vo Minh Hung was commended, received flowers and a certificate of merit for his achievements in catching robbers very similar to Nguyen Minh. New. Ms. Linh reported to the police and on September 12, 2014, Tan surrendered.

Twice before, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City respectively sentenced Tan to 18 months in prison, then 5 years in prison for “disturbing public order”. However, both sentences were dropped because the defendant’s conduct showed signs of committing murder.

After two first-instance trials, in this third trial, the jury found that the defendant’s actions constituted the crime of “murder”, infringing on other people’s lives, affecting security and order, and failing to succeed. Urgent, need to be punished. However, considering that the victim was also partly at fault, the defendant also had many achievements in local work, so the defendant was sentenced to the above sentence.

According to the indictment, around 11pm on November 10, 1994, Tan sat drinking beer with Nguyen Dinh Thanh Lam, Nguyen Phi Long, Trinh Khanh Hai, Ly Kim Long, Do Thien Lan and a number of unknown subjects, in front of an alley. Quarter 1, Dien Bien Phu Street, Binh Thanh District.

At about 2 o’clock on 11/11/1994, Tan asked Lam to drive a motorbike to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phien (who sells duck porridge and retails gasoline on the sidewalk of Dien Bien Phu street) to fill up the debt, but Mrs. Phien did not. agree.

Phien’s grandson Nguyen Canh Tung quarreled with Lam, so he chased him with a beer bottle, but he escaped. Lam turned to break Mrs. Phien’s glass cabinet. After that, Lam returned to tell the group of friends, and then went with the group of friends to Phien’s place to cause trouble.

At this time, Nguyen Long and his wife were passing by, watching, a young man in the Tan group borrowed a lighter to light a cigarette but did not return it, so there was an argument between Long and this young man. Long left, 4-5 young people (unidentified) ran to grab his collar and demanded to beat him. Long ran to get a stick and chased this young man, but was beaten by them with an iron, a homemade knife, and a wooden stick, so Long ran home.

When they heard that Long had been beaten, two of Long’s brothers, Nguyen Lan and Nguyen Lieng, ran out to beat the youth group and were beaten by this group, making Lan and Lieng lying motionless on the street. Long, Lan, Lieng’s mother took Lan to the emergency room, but Lan died on the way to the hospital.

At this trial, the defendant said that he did not commit murder but asked to support the victim’s funeral expenses because of friendship. And when he was told the last word, the defendant asked for a reconsideration and asked for a light sentence to return to his family soon.
