According to Reuters news agency, Wong was selected as the fourth generation leader (4G) of the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) on April 14. This decision paved the way for what he would become next prime minister of Singapore.

Radio Channel News Asia quoted Mr. Lee Hsien Loong at a press conference on the morning of April 16, saying that whether he or Mr. Lawrence Wong will lead the PAP Party in the next election will be decided later.
