Amber Heard’s attorney cross-examined Johnny Depp after two days of taking his testimony

Johnny Depp will face cross-examination by Amber Heard’s lawyers on Thursday after he spent two days testifying in his defamation case accused Heard of lying about abusing and physically assaulting him during their marriage.

Depp stood up for several hours this week detailing his relationship with Heard, accusing her of throwing things at him and insulting him during their marriage. He describes his ex-wife as someone with “conflict needs, she needs violence.”

Depp, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star, is suing Heard over an essay she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, in which she says she has become a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Although the article never mentioned Depp by name, his lawyers said it indirectly referred to the allegations she brought against him during their 2016 divorce.

“When the allegations spread rapidly around the globe, telling people I was a drunk, cocaine user, threatening to hit women – suddenly in my 50s – it was over. ‘ said Depp. “You’re done.”

In two days, Depp painted a picture of Heard as someone who started out as his perfect partner but turned hostile over the course of their nearly year-and-a-half relationship.

According to Depp’s account, Heard would fight and escalate them with degrading language. He also said that she would “attack” sometimes, whether it was a slap or a shove, or throwing something at him.

As evidence, lawyers for Depp have produced photos of his injuries from what they allege were attacks by Heard. Audio clips recorded during their battle were also played.

Heard is said to have told Depp in a clip: “I hit you. I didn’t punch you.”

In pre-trial court filings, Heard said she hit Depp in self-defense or to protect her sister, according to The New York Times.

Heard that was granted a protective order in May 2016 after she alleges that Depp hit her with a cell phone. She gave evidence in court – a photo with a bruise on her face – and claimed he pulled her hair, yelled and beat her repeatedly.

“During our entire relationship, Johnny Depp abused me verbally and physically,” Heard said in a sworn statement at the time.

She also said that she lived in fear of Depp, saying he had a “short fuse” and terrorizing her.

Depp testified that his typical tactic during debates was to eliminate himself, often by locking himself in the bathroom. It’s a strategy he learned growing up with an abusive mother, he said.

Depp, who has denied ever attacking Heard, recounted his version of the May 2016 mobile phone incident on Wednesday.

Depp said the two were in his penthouse the day after he called Heard to tell her that his mother had passed away and that he wanted to file for divorce.

Heard he wanted to talk, Depp said, so he went over to talk and pack up his things. He said they hadn’t spoken for almost a month at the time.

Depp said Heard was laughing at him with a friend over the phone as he packed up his things.

“It’s been a rough couple of days and I really don’t feel like I deserve this treatment,” Depp said.

He took the phone, told her friend that Heard was “his everything” and then “thrown” it on the chair before he went into the kitchen, Depp told the court.
