Assoc. Prof. TS.BS Nguyen Vu Trung, Director of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, said that this development is consistent with the epidemic cycle of dengue fever – a disease endemic to the city and the southern provinces. Observing the developments of the past few days along with climate change, the Director of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City predicts that dengue fever in 2022 will be very complicated.

Therefore, the health sector needs to act immediately to limit the number of severe cases and deaths, and prevent large outbreaks from occurring.

Agreeing with the above statement, Mr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the City’s Department of Health, directed the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Children 1, Children 2, Children of the City, HCDC to immediately conduct training for medical facilities. medical. He asked medical staff to identify early, avoid missing severe cases, causing delays in treatment.

At the same time, implement contingency plans, including sanctioning individuals and units that do not take measures to prevent epidemics according to Decree 117.

On the afternoon of April 22, the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City said that it has received 47 cases of dengue fever in children and 283 in adults. The number of cases nearly doubled compared with the same period last year. In 2 weeks, there were 10 cases of hemorrhagic shock, multi-organ damage, critical.

The same situation is happening at Children’s hospitals. Many children were hospitalized in the state of hemorrhagic shock, organ damage, pulse and blood pressure could not be measured. Children’s Hospital 1, Children 2 recorded the first deaths.

According to the HCDC, dengue fever is an annual disease, the peak period is from the end of July to the end of January next year – a favorable time for mosquitos to spread the disease. In 2022, the disease was recorded early.

The initial symptoms of the disease are similar to some other viral infections, especially in the early stages. During the first 3 days, it is difficult to determine if the child has dengue fever.

Children often get worse on the 4th to 6th day of illness with manifestations of cardiovascular collapse (cold hands and feet, light pulse, difficult to catch), vomiting, bleeding from the nose, teeth, bloody urine, abdominal pain in the liver, lethargy, fatigue… At that time, parents need to take their children to the hospital immediately, avoiding painful consequences.

Dengue fever, if diagnosed early and treated promptly, will progress smoothly. 90% of children with the disease will recover on their own in 7-10 days. Children who are obese, have underlying medical conditions, or arrive late to the hospital are a group that is susceptible to severe and critical illness.
