Alexandra Fasulo is a 29-year-old young businessman, currently living in the US. Recently, she has shared an article about how to get rich and save her money.

Alexandra said in 2018 she achieved a 6-figure income as a freelance writer on Fiverr (an intermediary website that helps freelancers communicate with people who need to buy services). She has earned nearly 300,000 USD (nearly 7 billion VND) in revenue from blogging, press releases and designing content for clients’ websites.

By the age of 29, she had 6 sources of income, including: freelance writing, advertising cooperation for products, selling e-books, selling courses, in addition to advertising revenue. and affiliate revenue. She shared that: “In 2021, I have made more than $400,000 in net income.”

Talking about her own success, Alexandra said: “Like all members of the Gig economy (an economy in which people often work in temporary and flexible positions), companies also tend to hire independent people instead of employees. full-time employee), I knew I couldn’t expect making this much money to last forever. So besides spending money on spending, entertainment and travel, I will spend the rest to save and invest to increase my net worth.”

In addition, she also owns 3 properties in her hometown, Florida (USA) with a value of nearly 1.2 million USD (more than 27 billion VND).

So how can she both have the life of her dreams and save her income, the answer is to refuse to spend money. Here are 5 times when you should refuse to spend money in Alexandra’s opinion:

1. Brand new clothes and bags

The young woman shared that instead of going to luxury stores, she often visits second-hand stores like Buffalo Exchange and Pavement. So, not spending thousands of dollars on new designer handbags or clothes will help her save more on old but useful items.

She said: “My rule is not to spend more than $2,500 a year on shopping. Not only am I saving money this way, but I can also help the environment by donating all my unused clothes to Goodwill.”

2. Fly flights without using a loyalty card

Alexandra shared that she uses her Chase Sapphire Rewards credit card to spend on her biggest needs, which are dining and travel, so for each spending, she will be able to accumulate flight miles for herself and redeem it. to flights as needed.

“Even though I have to pay a card fee of 300 USD (more than 6 million VND) annually, it has saved me about 2,000 USD (nearly 46 million VND) in flight and travel expenses. In addition, I also have a JetBlue credit card to accumulate points to pay for some flights.”

3. Rent a house

Alexandra bought her first and current property in March 2021, then she bought two more properties in October 2021 and March 2022 in Miami.

“I have long-term tenants where rent includes mortgage fees and Homeowners Association (HOA) fees.”

She also added that the mortgage she will have to pay on the home she currently lives in will be less than if she rented another similar home – since it’s her own.

4. Fun after 8pm

“I’m a daytime person, so I love my schedule. At the same time, I also love finding special hours at local restaurants and bars, especially during travel.”

Eating early in the day will help her cut the total cost of food to less than a third compared to eating at 8pm, since that will be the peak of the eateries.

5. Uber rides

Alexandra thinks she won’t travel by Uber (technological taxi) if the destination is less than 3 miles (about 4 km) from her. Instead, she will walk there to both exercise and save on expensive car rental costs: “When I travel, this rule allows me to explore every corner of the city as cheaply as possible.”

In addition, Alexandra will strive to walk at least 12,000 steps a day, so she will plan to be ready for the following days to make sure walking is properly organized, and she will also check Map to make sure that the part of the road you have to cross has a pedestrian sidewalk.

“Easy walking saves me more than 300 USD (over 6 million VND) per month on transportation when I travel without being able to bring my own car.”
