US judge orders Mr. Trump to pay a fine of 10,000 USD/day

A New York state judge concluded that former President Trump resisted a court order, requiring him to pay $ 10,000 for each day of delaying the delivery of investigative documents.

“Mr. Trump, I know you take your job very seriously, and I take your job seriously too. I conclude you have looked down upon the courts,” New York state judge Arthur Engoron said today, despite the former president. America Donald Trump did not appear in court.

The judge also responded to a proposal by New York Attorney General Letitia James, which ordered Trump to pay a fine of $10,000 a day until the required documents are delivered.

“This is a political act. The attorney general’s investigation appears to be in vain. The Trump Organization has always provided documents on time,” said Alina Habba, an attorney for Trump and company, said in court.

New York Attorney General Letitia James opened an investigation into Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization from 2019 on suspicion of business fraud by the Trump Organization.

The New York State Supreme Court judge in February asked Donald Trump and his two children, Donald Trump Jr and Ivanka, to answer questions, but the former president’s family appealed. He was also ordered by the court to hand over a series of accounting and tax documents of the company.

Lawyers representing Mr. Trump have confirmed that the former president will soon hand over the requested documents, but the New York attorney general has not yet received them. “Mr Trump violated a court order by not sending us documents by March 31,” James’s office said.

Ms. James announced in January that she had found evidence that Mr. Trump’s company had misrepresented the values of many properties and misinterpreted those values for economic gain. Among the properties under investigation is Trump’s luxury apartment at Trump Tower in Manhattan. The New York attorney general’s office said that the apartment was overstated to three times the actual size to increase the value by about $200 million.

Meanwhile, the Trump family has accused the investigation of being politically motivated because the New York attorney general is a Democrat.
