Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thanh Van (SN 1984, Thai Nguyen) is one of the few Vietnamese scientists with great influence in the world in the field of disaster forecasting. Previously, while in Vietnam, she had a predestined relationship with the field of “Natural Geography” and worked as a lecturer at Thai Nguyen University for a while. As a woman, she is not afraid to engage in “hot spots” of natural disasters for geodetic measurement. Here, Ms. Van felt sad when she witnessed people suffering and flooding in the disaster area.

Now, when she became a doctoral student in Taiwan, Ms. Hoang Thanh Van discovered that nature and natural disasters here have many similarities with her hometown. Meanwhile, Taiwan is one of the 10 places in the world with strong development in disaster prevention technology, so Ms. Van is even more determined to learn progressive ways.

Pursuing a research path with a full scholarship from the School of Civil Engineering, Feng Chia University, she devoted herself to her studies and quickly completed her research program after 4 years.

Having successfully crossed the dance floor, she returned home and plans to continue to contribute to Vietnam. However, an unexpected fate struck, she received a call from a professor who used to study.

Prof. Tien-Yin Chou – Director of Center for GIS, Feng Chia University, who is the manager of many government projects for Vietnam, invited Ms. Van to stay to join the project support for the two Vietnamese sides. and Taiwan.

Her career abroad has progressed very well, she completed her PhD research, then continued to study for the rank of Associate Professor, and is currently preparing for the title of Professor. However, returning to the ego of an emotional woman, Hoang Thanh Van also sometimes wavers when thinking about personal happiness.

She jokingly said: “When I finished my doctorate, I was also 30 years old, so I was afraid that it was difficult to get a husband”. Sometimes, Van’s parents feel sorry for their daughter, just wanting her to settle down in the family.

– 2015-2022: As the director and co-director of 24 ministerial-level projects (Taiwan Ministry of Education and Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology).
