Crash a $700,000 sports car because I don’t know the manual number

The driver just bought a 2006 Ford GT Heritage version for $704,000 at an auction in April and had an accident in the same month.

Ford built only 343 GT Heritage Editions in 2006, and now one of these will not be able to fully recover after crashing into a tree on April 29 in Florida. The car was purchased at the Barrett-Jackson auction event in Palm Beach on April 7-9.

According to a police report, driver Robert J. Guarini, 50, caused the accident because he was “unaccustomed to driving a manual transmission” and lost control while in second gear.

But when answering questions from Road & Track, Guarini says the opposite, that he is increasing numbers, from number one to number two, instead of numbers. “I don’t want people to think I’m racing at 145 km/h. I’m running at 56 km/h,” the driver said.

In addition to the failure to drive a manual transmission, Guarini also said the car uses old, recently refurbished tires, and that the road is muddy.

But whether the driver upshifts or downshifts, the resulting limited-edition and super-expensive sports car will need costly repairs. The hit to the tree was so strong that all the airbags deployed, and the GT was thrown a few meters away.

Ford GT Heritage Edition is equipped with a supercharged, 5.4-liter V8 engine with a capacity of 550 horsepower and 677 Nm of torque. Rear-wheel drive and 6-speed manual transmission. The limited edition also uses an upgraded Penske Racing suspension and a Corsa Performance exhaust system.

Fortunately, no one was injured, except for the driver who suffered a few scratches. However, Guarini is accused of driving while his license was suspended and the GT was uninsured. Guarini said his car had special insurance and his license was suspended due to a system error.
