Moldova breakaway almost attacked
The Interior Service of the breakaway Transnistria region of Moldova recently announced that it had discovered an attempt to carry out a terrorist attack in the village of Mayak using a drone containing explosives.
“Intent to carry out a terrorist attack in the Mayak community. Since the blasts last weekend, radio and television security has been tightened. Last night (May 2), while patrolling the area of Transnistria radio and television station, border guards discovered an unmanned aircraft. It has been disabled,” the Transnistria Interior Service said on the Telegram messaging app. The agency also confirmed that the drone was carrying explosives, according to TASS news agency.

Transnistria’s interior agency speculates that the perpetrators plotted a sabotage attack on an area containing equipment for cooling the transformers of the radio center. If the attack is successful, that critical device becomes inoperable.
Experts suspect that the drone was launched from Ukraine, according to TASS. There is no information on the Ukrainian side’s response yet.
On April 25, Transnistria’s interior service said the headquarters of the region’s security service was attacked with grenade launchers at around 6pm, according to AFP. No one was injured in the incident. On April 26, Reuters cited a notice from Transnistria’s interior agency that said two radio antennas of the radio and television center here were damaged in the explosions.

Also on April 26, President of Moldova Maia Sandu convened an emergency meeting with the supreme security council, regarding the two explosions that took place in Transnistria on April 25 and 26. After the meeting, Ms. Sandu said “the forces within Transnistria likes war” and wants to destabilize the situation in the region.
