According to the Independent, the death of Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Blinov was confirmed on Monday, May 9, when a portrait of him appeared on a grave in Volgograd, southwestern Russia. Russian officials had previously denied that Mr Alexander Blinov died in battle.

Mr. Blinov served in a motorized rifle unit, is a father of 3 children. A family friend confirmed the news to a local newspaper, saying: “Unfortunately, the death of my friend Sasha Blinov was learned today in Ukraine. For us, it was a blow. shock”.

Grandfather Alexander Blinov was the 40th senior Russian commander to have died in the war, according to Independent.

Earlier, it was reported that the 39th lieutenant colonel of Russia, Fezul Bichikaev, was also killed while on a secret intelligence mission.

Military expert Oleg Marzoev told a local news website that Mr Bichikaev acted with “sacrifice and heroism”. He was one of Russia’s youngest senior commanders and was killed near Kharkiv, local media reported.

Earlier, it was reported that Fyodor Evgenievich Solovyov became the 38th Russian colonel to die in the war in Ukraine.

A Russian report states that the 44-year-old is the commander of a self-propelled artillery regiment and he was awarded the Medal of Courage.

The British Ministry of Defense claims that battlefield losses and provable military campaign failures have prevented President Putin from declaring victory at the Victory Day parade.

President Putin celebrated Victory Day on May 9 and delivered a speech on Red Square in Moscow in which he blamed the West for the war.

Putin said that the special military operation in Ukraine was necessary because the West was “preparing for an invasion of our lands, including Crimea”.
