Why did Apple kill the iPod touch permanently?

Apple not only had to say goodbye to its position as the world’s number one valuable brand, but it also had to wave goodbye to the iPod – the product that once made its storm.

About 20 years ago, anyone who had an iPod to listen to music was considered extremely stylish. This is also a revolutionary product for the technology giant Apple – before the iPhone was born. On May 11, Apple officially stopped production of this product, ending the golden age of this music player that lasted more than 2 decades.

Bloomberg newspaper headlined “End of an era: Apple stops making the last iPod model”. Apple has officially pressed the Off button for the production line of the iPod touch model, the last generation of the iPod family – the iconic product that Apple launched on the market in 2001.

Apple lovers even consider the iPod touch era to be the era of Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs – the late CEO of Apple said: “iPod touch is the best portable device for listening to music and also the best device for watching video.”

If for young people born from 2000 onwards, talking about Apple is talking about iPhone, then for longtime fans of defective apples, iPod is the launch product for this technology giant.

When the iPod was born, its impressive sales helped pull Apple out of the mire of debt, from a company that nearly defaulted into the $3 trillion tech giant it is today.

When the iPod was released 21 years ago, with its youthful design and eye-catching colors, it put an end to bulky CD players. Apple continues to release newer models, iPod nano and iPod touch. It can be said that the iPod has revolutionized the music market at that time.

Until now, when Apple has released the famous iPhone iPad models for being expensive, the iPod models in circulation have kept a modest price. The 2019 iPod touch model costs about $199.

So what is the reason why Apple stopped producing iPod?

21 years ago, iPod changed the face of the music industry when almost every young person had an iPod in their hands. Now, it was musical innovation that put an end to the iPod.

“Apple customers can now listen to music from iPhone, Apple Watch, HomePod Mini, then Mac, iPad and Apple TV,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

With so many ways to listen to music, the iPod was no longer needed. Even after 2014, Apple did not bother to count how many iPods it sold each year because it was too few compared to the iPhone.

The last iPod touch model will still be on sale until stocks last. But surely for many Apple fans, every time a music plays, they will still remember the first companions named iPod.
