Sweden signs application to join NATO
Sweden’s foreign minister officially signed the application to join NATO, declaring that this was the decision in the best interest of the country.
“It looks like we’ve made the best decision for the country at this point,” Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde said as she signed an application to join NATO in Stockholm today.
She said the application will be sent to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to begin the review process.

The move officially ended Sweden’s 200-year-old policy of neutrality. Previously, neighboring Finland on May 15 also confirmed that it would apply to join NATO, calling it a historic decision to end seven decades of non-alignment since World War II.
