Elevating Vietnam – Laos economic cooperation

Within the framework of the official visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on May 17, in Vientiane, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue had a meeting with Prime Minister of Laos Phankham Viphavanh.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh highly appreciated the significance of the visit of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly to the development of special relations between Vietnam and Laos. in general and close and reliable cooperation between the two National Assembly in particular.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that the National Assembly of Vietnam attaches special importance to the work of building and perfecting institutions and laws to meet the requirements of the renovation and international integration; always supports and actively supervises and promotes the implementation of cooperation programs and projects between the two Governments of Vietnam – Laos.

Regarding the direction of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the coming time, the two leaders emphasized the need for the two sides to coordinate and strictly implement high-level agreements, including the results of the 44th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee. Government of Vietnam – Laos takes place in Hanoi in early 2022; Agreement on strategic cooperation between Vietnam – Laos for the period of 2021-2030 and Agreement on bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos for the period of 2021-2025.

The two sides agreed to continue making efforts to find breakthrough solutions to elevate economic cooperation into a real pillar in the two countries’ relations, commensurate with the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos; promote trade and investment cooperation; strengthen the connection between the two economies, both hard infrastructure connection and institutional connection, digital economy, finance and banking.

In addition, the two sides continued to pay attention and take effective measures to solve difficulties and obstacles for businesses and important cooperation projects between the two countries, such as the Laos – Vietnam Friendship Park in the capital. Vientiane; wharves 1, 2, 3 of Vung Ang port; Hanoi – Vientiane highway, Nong Khang airport in Huaphan province (Laos)…

The two sides also affirmed to continue to work together to promote cooperation in other important fields such as defence, security, border, education – training, labor, science and technology, culture, sports, etc. tourism, cooperation between localities and people-to-people exchanges; at the same time, continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations, ASEAN and sub-regional cooperation mechanisms, both on the government channel and the parliamentary channel.

On the same day, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue had an exchange with Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Chairman of the Lao-Vietnamese Friendship Parliamentary Group, and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Sunthon Saynhachac; received the Minister of Technology and Communications, Chairman of the Laos – Vietnam Friendship Association Boviengkham Vongdara; received Secretary, Governor of Champasak province – Laos.
