More countries have reported cases of monkeypox

Many countries have urged people to be wary of monkey pox. US President Joe Biden yesterday called on people to take precautions, warning of consequences if this disease spreads widely. The call came when US health officials announced the discovery of a suspected case of monkeypox in the state Florida and is rushing to conduct related tests. If confirmed, it would be the third case of monkeypox in the US.

Monkeypox is transmitted after humans come into contact with monkeys. Viruses can enter through skin wounds, respiratory tract, eyes, nose or mouth, spread through respiratory droplets or bodily fluids. Symptoms appear within 5 to 21 days of being infected with the virus and include fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and fatigue. Monkeypox is usually mild, and most patients recover within a few weeks without treatment.

However, the disease can still be fatal, with a mortality rate of about 10%. There is currently no specific vaccine against monkeypox.

Health officials Denmark and Scotland (Brother) yesterday reported the first cases of monkeypox.
