Free mirror with hidden camera

ChinaThe man, surnamed Zhang, presented Ms. Li with a mirror that was introduced with the feature of creating a slim body image and a beautiful face, and told her to plug it in 24/7.

Although they just met, in April, Zhang in Guangdong, gave a female streamer surnamed Li, a mirror, and told her to always plug in the electricity and turn on the lights 24/24 to prevent circuit fires. Ms. Li was surprised but didn’t mind, until Zhang told her that if she was naked in front of the mirror, it would help her body look slimmer and her face more beautiful.

Worried, Ms. Li contacted the mirror supplier. They warned her to check if there was a camera inside. “Removing the mirror, I see inside there are four tiny, high-definition cameras and five 32G memory cards. One of the memory card records has the number 2019, meaning I’m not his first victim,” she said. and said he had informed the police.

Li feels lucky that the bluetooth alarm clock Zhang intended to send her has not arrived yet.

After being arrested, Zhang admitted to putting a camera in a mirror as a gift to Li. In addition, he installed hidden cameras at his ex-girlfriend’s house and those devices are still working. Zhang is a stealth camera expert who runs an online store that supplies video equipment. Currently, he has sold about 210 such devices.

Li’s story raises concerns about the use of hidden cameras in China. “Zhang even suggested that Li try looking in the mirror while naked. Do you want to broadcast her nude scene live? It’s scary,” one person wrote.

“The police have to arrest 210 people who bought Zhang’s camera. Maybe they did the same thing as him. More victims will be found,” another expressed frustration.

According to Chinese legal service platform Lvtu, sneaking pictures of others may violate individual rights, but it is not necessarily illegal. However, under criminal law, anyone who uses a hidden camera can be prosecuted if found to have broken the law.

In 2019, a local court in southwestern China sentenced a man to 3.5 years in prison for installing hidden cameras in some hotels and reselling the resulting images. In 2016, a court in Anhui province also sentenced a man to five years in prison after he threatened a former employee with footage of her in a bathroom, which was captured by hidden cameras.
