Covid-19: Positive news from North Korea, China

North Korea has partially lifted its blockade in Pyongyang and eased it in “stable areas”, news agency Yonhap of South Korea, citing diplomatic sources, confirmed on May 30.

People in Pyongyang were allowed to leave their homes for the first time since May 12, and business activities were gradually resumed. NK News said on May 29, not long after the news agency announced that “the pandemic situation is under control and improving across the country”.

Meanwhile, China on May 29 recorded a lower number of Covid-19 infections than in Beijing and Shanghai.

In the capital area, the number of infections on May 29 was only 12, down from 21 the previous day. Restrictions on movement in many counties began to be eased on May 29 after officials confirmed that the current wave of infections was under control.

In Shanghai, the number of infections on May 29 decreased to 67 cases, much lower than 122 cases the previous day. The Shanghai government on May 29 implemented a series of measures to support the blocked economy, including allowing all production activities to resume from June 1.
