Galaxy A and M batteries are still assembled in Vietnam despite being manufactured in China-Hi-tech fashion

Samsung is considering buying LG batteries for mid-range and low-cost smartphones in its Galaxy A and M series.

Korean media said, although it sounds strange to many people, this is not the first time Samsung use LG batteries inside their smartphones. Before that, many Galaxy S and Note models were powered by batteries manufactured by their Korean compatriots.

According to the report, Samsung is looking to diversify its sources of purchasing some phone components as well as cut costs as much as possible. So far, Samsung is using batteries from Amperex Technology Limited and China’s Navitasis (a joint venture between ATL and TDK of Japan) for its low-cost and mid-range phones, however due to the recent Covid-19 pandemic , major cities in China have been ordered to blockade.

Therefore, Samsung is currently trying to expand its cooperation with LG related to batteries to supply the whole series of smartphones Galaxy A and M. These batteries will be manufactured at LG Energy Solution factory in Nanjing and shipped to ITM Semiconductor factory in Vietnam, where they will be packaged and shipped to Samsung’s smartphone factory.

The report also mentions an industry official who said that it is possible that ITM Semiconductor offered its services at too high a price rather than Samsung knowingly choosing LG Energy Solution to supply batteries for the Galaxy A and Galaxy A phones. M.
